Workshop antropometrie 15 juni– Leuven (FABER)
Om de zichtbaarheid bij onze eigen leden te vergroten ontstond de idee om kleine, informele studiedagen te organiseren. In de workshop antropometrie wordt het rekenen met tabellen bediscussieerd aan de hand van concrete praktijkvoorbeelden en normen. Bedoeling is om ervaringen en kennis uit te wisselen. Inschrijven kan nog via roeland.motmans@idewe.be

14 juni 2011 (13u), Howest Industrial design center, Symposium on inclusive design, Kortrijk
Design for [every]one is een multidisciplinair onderzoeksproject tussen de opleidingen Industrieel (product)ontwerpen en Ergotherapie van Howest, de Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen. Het onderzoek slaat de brug tussen universal design en assistieve technologie. Geen twee personen of functiebeperkingen zijn gelijk. Toch kan een unieke gebruiker slechts kiezen uit een beperkt aanbod van universele hulpmiddelen, geproduceerd volgens massaproductiestandaarden.
Vandaag creëren nieuwe digitale prototyping technologieën en sociale media opportuniteiten voor deze nichemarkt. Ze openen de weg naar open-source design scenario’s waarin eindgebruikers in staat zijn om zelf hulpmiddelen op maat te ontwikkelen, te produceren en te verspreiden... a design for (every)one.

3rd International Conference Healthcare Ergonomics and Patient Safety (HEPS 2011), June 22-24 2011, Oviedo (Spain)
The third HEPS conference, jointly organized by IEA, AEE and SIE will focus on the challenges healthcare ergonomics faces in designing healthcare services as the co-product of the interaction between clinicians and patients. In particular, HEPS 2011 will have specific tracks dedicated to patient centred design of biomedical devices, intelligent information systems and clinical pathways for the acute and chronic conditions. Abstract submission is open until January 24th 2011, accepted papers will have ISBN and DOI and will be published by Taylor & Francis. Early birds registration before 31st March. Evaluatie gebruik en bruikbaarheid NIOSH tilmethodiek
Voor de beoordeling van handmatig tillen wordt in Nederland (en veel andere landen) de NIOSH methodiek gebruikt. Met deze methode kan op relatief snelle manier een schatting worden gemaakt van het maximaal acceptabele tilgewicht en het bijbehorende risico op gezondheidsklachten.
TNO inventariseert in opdracht van SZW het gebruik en de bruikbaarheid van deze methode. Om de ervaringen van experts in kaart te brengen, zoekt TNO mensen die de NIOSH methodiek geregeld tijdens hun werkzaamheden toepassen en bereid zijn een vragenlijst in te vullen.

Andy Imada, voorzitter van de IEA gaf ons op 16 mei het volgende bericht:

It is with profound sadness that I share the news that on May 13 we lost Hal Hendrick, our dear friend, mentor, and one of our own. Hal passed away in Colorado after a courageous battle with cancer that lasted over a year and half. Mary and the entire Hendrick family appreciate your support and friendship over the years, and especially during their time in treatment and recovery.

Namens de gehele BES heb ik onze oprechte deelneming gestuurd naar Mevr. H. Hendrick.

Prof. Hendrick was één van dé meest invloedrijke personen in de ergonomie van de jaren '90. Hij schreef talloze boeken en had zelf vooral expertise in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and Human Factors, komende uit de U.S. Air Force waar hij vooral onderzoek uitvoerde naar control-display panelen. Hij werkte aan talloze universiteiten en ijverde voor het professionalisme van het beroep van ergonoom. Hij was voorzitter van de IEA, de HFES (Human Factors and Ergonomics Society USA), BCPE (Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics) en de Foundation for Professional Ergonomics.
In 2008 gaf Hal nog volgende boodschap i.v.m. op pensioen gaan:
"Keep physically and mentally active. Never fully retire! Retirement is a great time to pursue hobbies, travel, and anything you always wanted to do but for which you never before had the time. It also is a great time to serve as a mentor for younger colleagues and to enjoy one's children and grandchildren."
